GOONJ 2023

INTRODUCTION

National Public School, Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore organised the fifth edition of its mega interschool event ‘Goonj’ on 21st and 22nd July 2023. The sole objective of this vibrant extravaganza was to promote, foster and stimulate the latent talent of students. It provided them with the platform to showcase their creativity and give wings to their imagination.

The fest this year saw a record participation of more than 600 students from twenty-one eminent schools of the city. The event comprised of a plethora of sixteen multi- disciplinary events from ten departments. The participants prepared meticulously and tried to out shine each other zealously, in the events like MUN, Debattle, Mad Act, Nrithyarupakam, Rangometry, Science Walk, Hackathon to name a few. Their excitement, vivacity and brilliance reflected in their performances.

The two days enriching saga culminated with the much awaited prize distribution ceremony. The rolling trophy was awarded to Presidency School, Nandini Layout which walked away with the maximum prizes.

DAY 1

KSHITIJ (Nritya Rupakam)

- An awe-inspiring spectacle of art, spirituality and cultural heritage

An exquisite artistic representation that intertwines storytelling, music and dance to bring alive the richness of ancient Hindu myths and epics. The performances showcased the cultural heritage and spiritual depth of our epics with mesmerizing choreography and compelling narrative in Sanskrit.

KANNADA CHETHANA (Debate)

- Engage in responsible dialogues, listen conscientiously and discern right from the wrong

The art of ‘Debating’ is finely linked to truth and oration, which can positively influence the listener to make the right choices. The participant hones the skill at being persuasive, thinks critically, and appreciates divergent views with and. The Debate in Kannada proved that language is not a barrier when one needs to effectively communicate one’s opinions.

RADICAL - RANGOMETRY (Math Art)

- A usual rangoli explaining the hidden mathematical concepts

Art in math is a fascinating and often the overlooked aspect of the subject. From geometric shapes to Fibonacci sequence, Chaos theory to Music theory, math and art intersect in many ways. Rangometry is an art-integrated display, analyzing creativity through the perception of Math. Rangometry widened our perceptive by looking at art through the lens of Math.

DELTA – SCIENCE ACT

- Lending scientific concepts with dramatic storytelling

Combing science and drama can develop a deeper understanding of scientific concepts while honing the creativity, teamwork and performance skills. It offers an excellent platform for encouraging inter-disciplinary learning and fostering passion for both science and the arts. Science Act witnessed complex concepts presented innovatively through the medium of drama.

NPS YPR MUN

- On the path of becoming global citizens

Model United Nations is an educational simulation where students typically role-play as delegates representing different countries and international organization in simulated sessions of the United Nations (UN). The competition promotes deeper understanding of international relations and diplomacy. It was a dream come true, as National Public School, Yeshwanthpur launched its very first NPS YPR MUN.

- The lifeblood of economies and catalyst for progress

Commerce is a core component of any successful society. The competitions gave an insight on the importance of financial literacy in real world by implications of trading, skills of crisis management and the ability to resolve corporate cases in the court of law.

Exodia – Nexus - Crisis & Communication

In this fast-paced world where people operate on many different perspectives. On one hand, International big-wigs trying to maximize their profits; while the people scraping along whatever they can to survive. A crisis can spring up at any moment- the side we are one can determine your outcome.
Participants role-played as an eloquent journalist who digs down to reveal the truth or a crisis manager trying to avert the crisis with everything they had.

Exodia - Caveat Emptor - The biggest risk you will ever take, is taking no risk

Students were exposed to the intricacies of the financial world, where they encountered a dynamic blend of risk and reward. It provided them with the platform to expand their knowledge, learn new strategies, and sharpen their analytical thinking.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – SPACEBAR (Byte brawl)

- Let the Byte brawl begin

The competition aimed at fostering a spirit of healthy competition among participants while showcasing their problem-solving and coding skills. Designing an interactive, simple and user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) helped to enhance creativity, critical thinking and logical thinking.

DEBATTLE

- Colliding thoughts, Symphonic blends

Debate empowers young minds and provides them a platform to express their thoughts in a structured setting. Informed arguments help us to identify our differences and discover common ground to work towards solutions, while fostering tolerance and respect for differences.
Humour is humanity’s greatest blessing, however, use of the same at a wrong time or way, can be detrimental. The statement of debate was, ‘Humour is the zest of life, albeit at the expense of others.’ The debate provided a mirror to the young minds to be more responsible with their thoughts, speech and action.

- A celebration of creativity, humor and effective communication

The key to sell a product is to capture the audience’s attention and leave a lasting impression. What better way than comical advertisements! Mad ads - An engaging and entertaining event that challenges participants to showcase their creativity and marketing prowess. The Hindi department had on display an array of ads on various themes.

- Resolving real-life problems and unlocking the mysteries of universe

“Mathematics is the language with which God has written the Universe,” said Galileo Galilei. Mathematical modelling is the process of creating a mathematical representation of the real -world system, phenomenon or process. Mathocon proved to be a powerful tool for understanding complex systems and making informed decisions through modelling.

- Blending the beauty of fashion with the wonders of science

An extraordinary event that combines the realms of science and fashion, amalgamating scientific knowledge and artistic creativity in a unique and captivating manner. The competition aimed at bridging the gap between science and fashion and fostering collaboration and pushing the boundaries of creativity.

- Key to treasure – Communication, Collaboration and Creative thinking

An exciting and adventurous event to test problem-solving skills, teamwork and the ability to decipher clues to find the hidden treasure. The competition sought to challenge and build a shared sense of excitement that`s hard to beat, map signals that shaped social learning through multiple paths and reinforced the source of information.

Exodia - Magnum Legatio - The Great Delegation

An extraordinary event that combines Leadership skills and policy making abilities while amending policies to suit situations and emergencies and managing resources effectively and efficiently.

MUSIC - THRONE OF APOLLO (Music band)

- One battle, One seat, One to grace the Throne of Apollo!

A heartwarming spectacle of children performing in a music band was fresh and the music touched every string of the soul. It was an excellent opportunity to explore creativity and develop musical skills.
