Topic: Shadow Weaver
CLASSES: 6-8 Date:18 September 2026
The Mathematics Association organised a “Shadow Weaver Challenge” for Classes 6 to 8 on 18 September, Friday. Students designed blueprints of symmetrical patterns and constructed stable dome-like structures based on their plans. They created decorative cut-outs that produced clear geometric shadows when illuminated from above. This hands-on activity provided practical experience in applying mathematical concepts such as Shapes, Angles, Symmetry, Patterns, and Structural Stability.
Through planning, designing, and constructing their models, students explored the relationship between two-dimensional patterns, three-dimensional structures, and the formation of shadows. The activity helped them understand the real-life applications of mathematics in art, architecture, and design.

Class 5 worked on the theme “Where Geometry Meets Light.” Students created Magic Shadow Boxes,
