ONAM

Onam is a traditional harvest festival that holds great significance for the people of Kerala that lasts for ten days. It begins with Atham and culminates as Thiruvonam, during which people engage in various festive activities and celebrations. This festival is said to commemorate the return of the mythical King Mahabali, who ruled the three worlds.
The students celebrated this festival by making beautiful design with flower petals - Pookkalam, a vibrant floral design to welcome King Mahabali, followed by narration and enactment of the fascinating tale of the Onam. Cultural performances like Vallamkali – The Boat Race, Pulikali – The Tiger Dance, Thiruvathirara kali – the traditional dance and a group song of the state were presented enthusiastically by the students, who were attired in the traditional costumes.
Onam is a festival that holds both cultural and moral significance that reminds everybody of the values of equality, kindness and the importance of harmonious society. The story of King Mahabali teaches us to be humble, generous and considerate towards others. It is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage and mythology of Kerala.
