‘Listening Eyes, Speaking Hands’
Class: 12A Date: 9 June 2023
The students of class 12 A of National Public School, Yeshwanthpur presented their class assembly on the topic ‘Listening Eyes, Speaking Hands’. They effectively used this opportunity to shed light on the problems faced by the hearing-impaired individuals in a world which caters to those who can hear. It was a balanced performance with the right amount of information, a skit depicting the challenges faced by the hearing impaired, discussing the necessity of adopting ISL-Indian sign language and a dance recital to convey that gestures and expressions can be used as a means of communication. The crowning moment was when the students concluded their performance with an impactful rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ in Indian Sign Language to show their solidarity to the hearing impaired.
The students not only learnt something completely new in the form of Indian Sign Language, but also effectively communicated the significance of inclusivity and the necessary measures to be taken to an attentive audience.
